CIS Professionalization Workshop
Publishing Academic Articles

Join us for a workshop to help graduate students address the challenges of publishing articles in academic journals. The session will feature guest speakers John Ishiyama, Professor of Political Science at the University of North Texas and former Editor-in-Chief of American Political Science Review, and Alison Johnston, Professor of Political Science and Public Policy at Oregon State University and co-Lead Editor of the Review of International Political Economy.

Participants will be able to sign-up for individual meetings with one or both guest speakers to engage them in their field of study and/or their background in academic publishing.

POIR Ph.D. Student Early Research Roundtable

Join CIS for a special roundtable session of the IR & CP Workshop. Six first-year Ph.D. students will share an “elevator pitch” of a research project in process, including research questions, preliminary arguments and evidence, and areas where they are welcoming feedback. Professors Allison Hartnett and Saori Katada will moderate.

The Center for International Studies invites POIR PhD students to attend a panel with Tine Paulsen and Brian Palmer-Rubin for a discussion about the job search process moderated by Saori Katada. Faculty panelists will give recommendations on candidates’ preparations, including strategies on gathering your application materials and conducting the interview process. They will also share what they look for in candidates as members of a search committee.
